Midwife Janette: A day out with me as a midwife and practice manager
As a midwife and head of a midwifery practice, I balance my everyday life between family life, professional responsibility and my great passion for animal welfare. Every day brings new challenges, but also many small moments of happiness. What does such a day look like? Let me take you with me and give you an insight into how I organize my work as a midwife and at the same time keep my personal life in balance.
The morning: Balancing family and hobby
My day starts early, usually around 6 a.m., when I help my family get ready for school and work. Making breakfast, packing school lunch boxes and encouraging the children on their way to school is part of my morning ritual. After managing the family, I devote myself to one of my greatest passions: caring for and rearing wild animals.
At my small wild animal care station, I look after orphaned or injured wild rabbits, squirrels and hares. Preparing these animals for release into the wild requires a lot of patience and attention, but it is an incredibly rewarding balance to my hectic job. This is where I recharge my batteries and find joy before going back to my day-to-day work.

Morning walk with my dog
After the animals have been looked after, I take a walk with my dog. This time is particularly important for me to clear my head. I already plan my working day and organize my to-do list in my head. The fresh air and exercise help me to approach the day positively and full of energy.
Everyday practice: preventive care, courses and home visits
My official working day at the practice starts at 9 am. One big advantage is using the Hebamio app, which allows me to easily organize my appointments and documentation digitally. Thanks to Hebamio, I have access to my calendar at all times and can react spontaneously to changes in my daily routine.
Preventive medical check-ups
Two antenatal check-ups are due today. These appointments are very important for expectant mothers, as they not only provide a medical check-up, but also create space for questions and emotional support. Every woman has her own needs and concerns, and it is important to me that she feels well looked after in my practice. The personal exchange and the trust that develops here are central elements of my work.
Birth preparation courses for multiple mothers
In the late morning, I run a birth preparation course for mothers who already have children. These courses are a wonderful opportunity to prepare again for the birth and to exchange ideas with other mothers. It's often less about basic questions and more about the individual challenges that every pregnancy brings.
After a short lunch break, during which I usually have a quick meal, it's straight on to the home visits.
Afternoons: home visits and postnatal care
I often spend my afternoons making home visits, especially to new parents in the postpartum period. The first days and weeks after the birth are a sensitive phase in which parents need a lot of support. I check the health of mother and child, give breastfeeding tips and discuss questions about the new everyday life with baby.
Thanks to the Hebamio app, I can also record all data directly in digital form. This not only saves time, but also ensures that I am well prepared for every visit.
The evening: rest and planning
When it finally gets quiet in the evening and the children are in bed, I treat myself to a cup of tea and sit down on the sofa with my laptop. I'm not a big fan of TV, and I usually fall asleep quickly when I'm reading. Instead, I use these quiet hours to plan my next courses - be it postnatal, breastfeeding advice or birth preparation. The Hebamio app makes it easy to create new courses and book them directly on my homepage, which makes organizing them much easier.
This evening moment of calm is a chance for me to reflect on the day and prepare for the tasks ahead. This is how my day ends - full of variety, but also full of fulfillment.
Conclusion
A day in my life as a midwife and practice manager is characterized by responsibility, flexibility and a lot of organization. But it's the variety of my tasks - from animal care to family care and home visits - that allows me to find the perfect balance between my professional and private life. Every day is different, but that's what makes my job so special.
